Questions and answers
How do I play?
Every square is where a row meets a column. Pick a square and type something that fits both. A right answer claims the square, and three in a row win. If nobody gets a line, it is a draw. The app also has a short guide: Profile › Help › How to play.
You can play against the bot (Practice, works offline), with a friend on one phone (Pass & play) or on two phones (Play a friend: one of you taps Create room and shares the code, the other taps Join with code).
How long is a turn?
30 seconds. A right answer claims the square. A wrong answer, or running out of time, passes the turn to the other player.
Why was my answer rejected?
An answer counts when it is a name in our lists and it fits both the row and the column. A name we do not have, or one that does not fit, is a wrong answer and the turn passes. In two-player games, a name that is already on the board is wrong too. After three letters the app shows up to four suggestions; tapping one submits it.
Our lists are built from public data and can be wrong or incomplete. If you think an answer should have counted, you can dispute it (next question).
How do I dispute an answer?
After a match, open the … menu on the result screen and choose Dispute an answer. Pick the answer that should have counted, add a note if you like (up to 200 characters) and tap Send. We check disputes by hand, and a confirmed one can lead to a fix in our lists. A dispute does not change the result of the match you already played.
How do I report or block a player?
In Play a friend, tap the … next to the other player's name, in the room or on the result screen. Report username sends us the name to look at, and play goes on; a name reported by 5 different players is reset to a generated name (see the Terms of use). Block closes the room for both of you, and that player can no longer join your rooms. In this version a block cannot be undone and there is no list of blocked players yet; we store who blocked whom, and a block is deleted when either account is deleted (see the Privacy policy).
I lost my progress or got a new phone
There is no sign-in yet. The app creates an account on your phone, identified by a random player ID (a short form of it, such as 8F14-E45F, is shown in Profile › About). Your stats, Daily history and Play a friend results belong to that account, and your Practice matches and settings are stored on the phone only. In this version nothing moves to another phone: a new phone, or deleting and reinstalling the app, starts you as a new player.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile › Delete account. What is deleted, what is kept and what to do if you cannot open the app: Delete your data.
What data does the app store?
Everything we store, why, and your rights are in the Privacy policy.
